Lan teaches you how to choose perfume

Hey everyone! This is Lan, and today, we’re diving into the wonderful world of perfumes. You know, so many of you have been emailing me, asking how to pick the perfect scent. Well, you’re in luck because that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about today!

First off, from my years of shopping around, I’ve learned that perfume can be one of the most wasteful cosmetics out there. You spray it on a couple of times, realize you don’t like the smell, and then that whole bottle just sits there, collecting dust. So, patience is key when it comes to choosing a perfume. Figure out what kind of scent you’re into – is it a strong, bold fragrance, a light and delicate one, a flowery aroma, or a fruity burst? Do you prefer something Less – known or a classic? And think about the occasions and seasons too. Once you have a clear idea, you won’t get lost in the perfume aisle and end up with something that’s not quite right for you.

Now, let’s get into the nitty – gritty of how to actually pick a perfume. Rule number one: never spray perfume directly on yourself in the store. Trust me, you don’t want to be stuck with a scent that doesn’t suit you. Instead, use a test strip or a tissue. Hold it about ten centimeters away from the nozzle, give it a little spritz, wave it in the air to let the fragrance fully develop, and then take a whiff.

And here’s another important one: don’t make a purchase decision right away. Every perfume has top notes, middle notes, and base notes. You need to experience the whole journey of the scent to know if it’s really the one for you.

Next, avoid testing too many perfumes at once. Our poor noses can only handle so much. If you smell too many scents, your olfactory bulbs will get overwhelmed, and you won’t be able to tell one fragrance from another. Stick to no more than four at a time.

When you do find a perfume you like, go for a sample or a small bottle if you can. Don’t rush to buy the big one right away. The true magic of a perfume reveals itself when it interacts with your skin. You don’t want to end up with a huge bottle that doesn’t work for you.

Before we wrap up, I want to share some common perfume mistakes I’ve seen over the years, so you can avoid them.

Mistake number one: buying a perfume just because you like how it smells on someone else. Our skin’s pH and temperature are all different. What smells great on your friend might not be the same on you. So, resist that impulse buy!

Mistake number two: storing your perfume in the bathroom. If you want your perfume to stay fresh and last longer, keep it away from damp and high – temperature areas.

Mistake number three: rubbing your skin after spraying perfume. This raises the skin temperature and can mess up the development of the middle and base notes.

Mistake number four: spraying perfume on clothes, especially those you don’t wash often, like blazers. If you use different perfumes, layering scents on these clothes can be a disaster.

Mistake number five: choosing the wrong perfume for the season. Spraying a heavy, oriental – style perfume in the middle of summer? Not a good idea. It can be overpowering, especially in hot weather.

And finally, mistake number six: wearing perfume every day, especially the same one. Your nose gets used to the smell, and you’ll end up using more and more, which can be a bit much for those around you. Mix it up, change your perfume with the seasons and occasions. That’s the key!

So there you have it, folks! All you need to know about choosing and using perfumes. Have fun experimenting with different scents and find the ones that truly make you shine!
